Do you know that
moment in which someone asks you about what you want to be when you become an
adult and your answer is “I don’t know it yet”?
Yes, we have to make lots of decisions when we may be unready for it yet.
For example, that moment at the end of Secondary Education in which you have to decide what you are going to do when you finish 4th year. Here in Spain you have about thirty possibilities (including the different types of Baccalaureate, the different types of Vocational Training, “FP” in Spanish, and the possibility of dropping out after Compulsory Secondary Education) and it’s practically impossible to be a hundred percent sure of which of them you are going to choose. But you have to select one.
And some years after that election, if you want to study at the university, you have even more different options. In Spain there are more than one hundred university degrees. Yes, more than one hundred degrees, you have read that right. It can seem an overwhelming decision to make, but we can also consider it from another point of view. We can face it taking into account that, the more possibilities there are to choose from, the more opportunities there are to study whatever we really like.

Some years ago,
there were not so many possibilities to choose your future. It was very likely
that what you wanted to work at when you grew up was not among the degrees to
study. Some years ago, if you wanted to study something a bit different, there
was not a specific degree for you and you had to compare the subjects of some
of the degrees that were available to look for the one that shared some of your
interests. However, if you want to study those same subjects today, you will
probably find a degree that fits you perfectly or almost perfectly. Some years ago, you were the one who had to adapt to the degree in which they dealt with similar topics to those you wanted to study. On the other hand, today it looks like if the degrees come by demand, you will find the subjects you want to study in one degree or another. Obviously, if you are a very fussy person, you may not find one that fits you perfectly.
The only drawback that this has is that if you are hesitating between choosing one or another degree because you like both of them, you can’t opt for one because the other doesn’t exist. Choose what you choose, you won’t be able to say you don’t have the opportunity to study whatever you like the most. Because, nowadays, you have the opportunity to choose your future.

I totally agree with this post, nowadays you have a lot of different things that you can choose. However, I also think that this isn't good at all if you don't know what to study yet, because this can cause you to have a lot of doubts about what to choose, and confuse your mind, but I have to say that I preferer to think a lot about it instead of having to take something that I don't like as it happened in the past.

I can relate to this post. Last month I didn´t even knew what I wanted to study in the future! Although I could made my mind up recently.

I am agree with these points of view because nowadays we can study what ever we want. But the main problem appears always, what we can choose. For example my sister is in 2ªBach and she doesn't now what she wants to do. In my case, I have an idea of what I want.
ReplyDeleteThe main point is that it doesn't matter what you choose. If you like it, do it .

I agree with the author when they said that we do have the opportunity to choose our future and I think that many times the reasons given for "not studying" are not but excuses. Nevertheless, I think we are tooooo young to chose our future right now. Talking about myself, I can say that there are things that I don't like that much and I feel like I won't be able to go ahead with them but there are still a lot of things that I do like and at least for the moment, there are no ways to study all of them! And this is something that personally bothers me a lot, the fact that at the age of 16 and sometimes even before, we as humans, have to close our minds to one single path...
ReplyDeleteThat's it Lara!! Thank you!
DeleteSometimes I just wonder if I'm the weirdo of our system of education but then I realise that no, it's not just me. A lot of us, and I include myself, don't feel mature enough to choose something that will highly condition their lives in the future. I cannot understand how in XXI we still don't have a system that opens our minds and enables to experience and explore every part of us as scientists but mainly as humans. I'd to know about a different way of living and learning though!
Well I think that maturity is connected with what you feel or your thinking reaches when being relaxed. I don't believe that there's a specific age that states when maturity beggins or what it looks like when reaching it.
DeleteIt is very important to choose what you like and not what your Friends/ family like. You must study something that fulfils you in all ways because, at the end, that's what you are going to focus mainly thoughout your whole life. I totally agree what it is said on the post. By: Alba Carazo
ReplyDeleteThe problem comes when no more than one source of inspiration or information is known, whatever people will say will be okay at that moment. I believe that the more different people you know, the better you'll know yourself. It's just like our minds, the more different cultures you get to know, the more your mind opens!
DeleteI totally agree with what is said in the post. Nowadays you don’t have to study abroad because in Spain you have a good variety of degrees but sometimes having a lot of different options plays a fatal role in your election. Regarding this I am a fussy person.

ReplyDeleteI think this post is publish in a very important moment to our future. We take a lot of decisions every single day and each one will affect us in our future, even though there are some decisions that will change completly our future. To take difficult decisions is something very annoying to us, but at the same time that help us to grow up and face thoose situations in live. Thats why is essential to us to learn how to compare the profits and the disadvantages of some options in live.

I think that everything said in this post is completely true. Nowadays, in my opinión, there are to much degrees to choose so during the last years of the high school many students have to start thinking about their future. However, it is a good point that even though may be you don´t choose a degree that is exactly what you wanted, it is quite close.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's right. But nowadays we have such a large amount of possibilities which if you are still undecided (as me) makes it even mode difficult to choose.
ReplyDeleteAnd you have also have to think that this is what you are going to study and possibly work for the rest of your live, which is a little of pressure.
But yeah! It's amazing that we have such a wide range of possibilities

I can identify myself in this post.I still have not decided what I am going to do in my future.
ReplyDeleteI think that is a good topic to talk about, nice job.

This post reminds me that I still not have dedided what I am going to study. I am not good at making decisions and there are plenty of possibilities. Good job the post is great

I’ve never really had that problem since I’ve always known what I wanted to do, nonetheless I strongly agree with the author as most of my friends have no idea about what to do next year. In addition to this I wanna mention that lot of people just choose some options ‘cause they have more future instead of what they really wanna do.
ReplyDeleteIzana Laguna Carnicero
Hehehe such as a good luck the one you have knowing that now!
DeleteOn the other hand, I don't blame people choosing "because of the possibilities a specific bachelor can afford them" but maybe the misinformation that we sometimes find. And just imagine, 2nd bachillerato thousands of exams + the ebau ... would you really have the mental stability to take the decision you really want? Well I personally wouldn't... and I'm sure that there're a lot of students undergoing the same. That's why we should be able to not close our minds and decide during our studies instead of 1 day before preinscriptions' deadline.
I am totally agree with this post. Today we have many different degrees to choose from. That is great because it is easier to look for something to study that we will like, however, the process to choose is too difficult either because we are not sufficiently informed of all the options we have or simply we are anguished to have so many degrees to choose from and we get confused. Most of the time, we do not know in some cases to decide just because we do not know what we like.
